Email Address

An email address is automatically associated with your account when it is created. Your email address will be [username]@engr.ucr.edu. Student engineering email is forwarded to RMail.

Checking Mail

1) Install the College of Engineering's SSL certificate if you have not done so already.

2) Please choose the way you would like to check your mail:

Webmail

  1. College Webmail, go to http://webmail.engr.ucr.edu and enter your username and password.
  2. R'mail at http://cnc.ucr.edu/rmail/access.html and login at http://rmail.ucr.edu with your NetID and PermPin.

Mail through an email application (imap / pop)

Checking Exchange with Outlook

Connect to VPN (Required for initial setup only)
Open Outlook on your computer and then fill in the prompted fields

  • Email: username@engr.ucr.edu
  • Domain\user: ENGR\engrusername
  • Server name: exchange.engr.ucr.edu

Email Forwarding

For all new engineering accounts, email is forwarded to the student's university email address, which can be checked at rmail.ucr.edu. Information Technology Solutions is responsible for those accounts.

Change Email Forwarding

To change email forwarding, do the following:

  1. log on to gauss through putty - ssh username@gauss.engr.ucr.edu
  2. remove existing .forward - rm -rf .forward
  3. create a new .forward with your email address - echo yourname@domain.com > .forward
  4. make file readable by mail server - chmod 744 .forward

Change Default Email application

If you click on an email link and it attempts to open in the wrong application

  1. Click Windows button

  2. type Deafult Apps

  3. Launch Default apps

  4. Click application icon under Email

  5. Choose correct application (generally Outlook)

Setup Email on my phone

The preferred method is to download the Outlook app form the appropriate application store.
You may also attempt to setup using the IMAP/POP settings in your phones Mail App

If prompted for use the following information

  • Server name: exchange.engr.ucr.edu
  • Email: username@engr.ucr.edu (This is the preferred method)
  • Email: username@exchange.engr.ucr.edu (Sometimes this is required when not prompted for server name)
  • Domain\user: ENGR\engrusername (note this is a backslash)

iPhone

  1. Go to the App Store – download “Microsoft Outlook”.
  2. Open Outlook, click Get Started, enter your ENGR email(username@engr.ucr.edu)
  3. Toggle Advanced Settings, then in Domain: ENGR and in Username: username
  4. Click Sign In.

Android

  1. Go to the Play Store – download “Microsoft Outlook”
  2. Open Outlook, click Get Started,
  3. If prompted select Exchange account
  4. Enter your ENGR email(username@engr.ucr.edu)
  5. Toggle Advanced Settings, then in Domain\Username: ENGR\username
  6. Click check mark and Login.

All Exchange email accounts have spam filter settings that can be set using

Install the outlook tools
  1. Visit spam.engr.ucr.edu
  2. Click the Download Outlook Add-In Installer link
  3. Run the downloaded Installer
